From day one, we decided that the physical published music from us should be free. Here's a mish mash of words and sentances attempting to describe how and why we could imagine it being the best thing ever.
Generally, we are intrigued by the fact that no one could claim ownership of our music thru purchase. At the same time in love with the idea that we could try and aim around those who wouldn't like us (which a vinyl and a long band name would have no problems doing by itself). That, along a limited run of records seems to be the best way to go, trying to reach as many relevant people as possible.
Also it feels great to be able to give something away, enabling others to do the same, by hopefully convincing them to pass on our music, in physical form instead of just sharing a thought, some words or a torrent link (even though we like those too). Free digital copies are nice, easy and all, but getting free vinyl....
In the end it also comes down to awareness and control of what we want in the end. We're not a business, our music isn't a commercial product, and we definently have no needs to try overdo or complicate things with models and methods imitating music industry behaviour. We wanna do things our way only, without the paperwork, excluding most middlemen and some reviewers (most don't even review vinyl and only review to sell). So..... our ways to your home, is dependent solely on us and you. That way we wouldn't have to work our asses of getting too many relevant windows to sell from and you don't have to encounter overanxious clerks, telling you that we're sooo mathrock (when we're not), trying to get you to cough up that 20$.
Skipping the high road, the small talk.... Again, we're a simple band really, with simple ideals. We want someone to listen to our music. Giving the complete package away for free, is the easiest and most effective way for us to reach that goal.
In other words, we're super excited about giving our album away. And despite the excitement, there will be plenty tricks to map out in order to get it all done just right. Will tell you all about the nasty "how to", them pre orders details and stuff like that.... any day now.
In the meantime. We wait.
